Located in the San Pasqual Valley of North East San Diego
(near Escondido, CA) the San Diego Wild Animal Park is
controlled by the same group who runs the San Diego Zoo,
namely the Zoological Society of San Diego.  There are
1800 acres available to the park to host the wide range of
wild and endangered animals from Africa, Asia, Europe,
Australia and the Americas.   Established in 1969 and
opened to the public in 1972 the 3500 animals representing
260 species at the wild animal park can be viewed in
simulated natural environment.  Some of the animals can
be viewed close up along various trails in the park, but
most have to be viewed from a distance on a tram that
circles the animals free range area.
